How It Began:
Back in 2020, I hit a breaking point with skincare. I’ve always had the most sensitive skin ever — the kind where literally everything either burned, broke me out, or left me inflamed. And as a woman of color, it felt nearly impossible to find products that were gentle enough for my skin while also actually working for me.
I remember standing in the skincare aisle, feeling like nothing on those shelves was made with people like me in mind. It was frustrating, discouraging, and honestly, exhausting.
So, I decided to stop searching and start creating.
That same year, I officially started my business, Blacque. In the early days, I was making my own handcrafted skincare under the DBA The Basics Skin. It was small-batch, personal, and the beginning of what I always dreamed Blacque could be. Then Covid hit, and like so many small businesses, things came to a halt.
But I never gave up on the vision. And here we are today — still Blacque, but stronger, sharper, and more committed than ever.
Blacque was built with one mission: to create skincare made specifically for melanin & ethnic skin — skin that too often gets overlooked in the beauty industry. From the very beginning, our focus has been on formulas that honor the unique needs of ethnic complexions while also being safe for even the most sensitive skin. Every product is developed to protect the skin barrier, prevent irritation, and deliver results you can see and feel — so you can glow confidently without worrying about flare-ups or inflammation.
When I created this brand, I wanted a name that celebrated the richness, strength, and beauty of melanin. Blacque is a bold nod to that — a reminder that darker skin tones deserve to be centered in skincare, not treated as an afterthought.
But Blacque isn’t only for one shade of melanin. It’s for all ethnic skin — every beautiful tone that falls under the spectrum of skin of color. Whether your complexion is deep, golden, olive, or anywhere in between, Blacque is built to respect the unique needs of melanin-rich and sensitive skin across cultures.
Blacque isn’t just my brand — it’s my love letter to anyone who’s ever felt like their skin was “too difficult” or “too sensitive” for mainstream skincare. I’ve been there. And I built Blacque so you don’t have to feel that way anymore.
Here’s to finally having skincare that gets us. 💜
